Suit brought by Lambda Legal on behalf of seven Arizona families will help raise awareness about why the freedom to marry is important for LGBT people

PHOENIX – Jeremy Zegas, project director for Why Marriage Matters Arizona, an education campaign in support of the freedom to marry in Arizona, said this in response to the news today that a second federal lawsuit has been filed challenging the state’s discriminatory marriage law:

“Freedom means freedom for everyone. Couples who love each other should be supported by Arizona, not marginalized. The courageous families filing this lawsuit, by telling their stories and sharing their decades of commitment, will help Arizonans understand why marriage matters to same-sex couples. The fact is, right now, Arizona families are being denied thousands of critical protections. It’s time to fix that. We welcome this legal challenge. Arizona is ready for the freedom to marry.”
